Scope & Content |
The Romeo Peach Festival collection offers researchers a unique historical perspective of the Romeo Peach Festival and its representative Peach Queens. The materials were created by several organizations including the Romeo-Washington-Bruce Parks and Recreation, with the bulk of the items created and collected by the Romeo Lions Club. Both organizations donated some materials to the Romeo District Library before the formation in 2016 of the Romeo Community Archives, which are housed at the Romeo District Kezar Library. The bulk of the collection was donated in December of 2016 by the Lions and was document the Peach Queen pageants and activities, along with some other festival activities, including the car show and carnival. Accruals are ongoing, and currently, the collection totals 15 linear feet. The scrapbook albums document each Peach Queen’s involvement in the pageant, Floral parade, and various other activities and events attended. The materials from the albums make up the bulk of the collection which is particularly strong regarding the Peach Queens over the years. The photographs include various festival events, especially the Floral parades, as well as formal portrait photographs of the Peach Queens, and other activities and events attended by her.
